Frequently Asked Questions

What is FerAppease MSAS?

The active ingredient of FerAppease is a synthetic analogue of the Maternal Swine Appeasing Substance (mSAS). mSAS is naturally secreted by the sebaceous gland located on the skin of the mammary gland with the unique function of inducing an appeasing effect on the nursing offspring.

FerAppease is topically applied, and the active ingredient (mSAS) is assimilated by the vomeronasal gland located in the nose of the animals. The mSAS stimulation of the vomeronasal gland desensitizes regions of the amygdala and the hypothalamus, dramatically decreasing threat perception and its downstream stress consequences.

How do you apply FerAppease?

FerAppease is for use only in healthy swine by topical administration to the skin above the muzzle to the forehead.

When can FerAppease be used?

FerAppease can and should be used every time animals are exposed to management and physiological stressors where suppression of threat perception is desirable. i.e. weaning, castration, vaccination, processing, commingling, transportation, farrowing, interruption of lactation (dry off), breeding, heat stress mitigation, et al.

What is the dosage of FerAppease on Swine?

For piglets apply 3 mL of FerAppease from the skin above the muzzle to the forehead.

For adult pigs apply 10 mL from the skin above the muzzle to the forehead.

How long before FerAppease takes effect?

Behavior modulation and stress mitigation starts to take place immediately after FerAppease is applied.

Is a prescription required for FerAppease?

No, FerAppease does not require a veterinarian's prescription or a Veterinary Feed Directive plan.

How much does FerAppease cost per dose?

Adult Pigs: $0.68 cents per head
Piglets: $0.20 cents per head

Are there any side effects of FerAppease?

There are no known side effects.

Is there a withdrawal period after using FerAppease?

No, there is no withdrawal period after using FerAppease.

Can FerAppease be applied when it’s raining?

FerAppease is an oil-based product. It is recommended to apply FerAppease on a dry animal. It is best to allow FerAppease at least 30 minutes to absorb into the skin of the animal before getting wet.

What is the duration of each application?

FerAppease is effective for a period of 14 days. Most economically relevant, stressful events have a duration of less than 14 days. Therefore, a single application will get the animals through the entire challenge period.

Is there a benefit to reapplying FerAppease after the 14-day period?

If an animal is being run through the chute after the 14-day period for any reason such as revaccinating, studies have shown there are benefits to reapplication at this time.

Does FerAppease expire?

FerAppease has a two-year shelf life.

How should FerAppease be stored?

Store at controlled room temperature at 10 - 30℃ (50-86℉). Do not refrigerate or freeze.

Never received order and no response to inquiries

I ordered 2 bottles of FerAppease on June 28 (one swine and one bovine). The order was supposed to arrive on July 3, but never came. I inquired on July 6th and never received a response. I sent another e-mail on July 11, asking for a refund since the product still has not been received and it was a time sensitive purchase. I still have not received a response. They can't be bothered to respond to a problem, but didn't hesitate to send me an e-mail asking for a review or several e-mails with their newsletter. This review is primarily about the company itself, not the product. I would not recommend ordering from them directly due to the issues I have had with not receiving the order and no customer service!! As far as the product itself, I had high hopes for it and was looking forward to trying it, but had to go a different route. In the future, if I decide to try the product, I would find a local dealer and purchase from them directly and pick up locally. I don't know if I am even willing to do that, considering the company doesn't seem to care that they charged me over $200. I do plan on filing a complaint with the BBB and the State Attorney General if I do not get my money back.

Dear Danielle,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you've experienced.

We understand how important timely delivery and responsive service are—especially for a time-sensitive product—and regret that we did not meet your expectations in this instance.

After reviewing our records, we can confirm that your order (placed on June 28) was delivered on July 5 by USPS and marked as delivered inside the mailbox. Could you please double-check the delivery location or with others in your household in case it was retrieved or misplaced?

We did receive your message last Friday, July 11 and regret not responding sooner. Unfortunately, we were was unable to find an earlier email from July 6 in our system, but we take full responsibility for the delay in responding and understand how frustrating that is.

While we’re unable to process a refund for delivered items, we’d still like to make things right. We’d be happy to offer a courtesy discount or credit toward a future purchase.

Please let us know how you'd like to proceed. We value your interest in FerAppease and hope we can regain your trust.

Sincerely,

Marcela
